Hapkido is a Korean art of self defense. Hapkido includes a vast variety of joint manipulation, weapons defense, throws, ground fighting, kicks and nerve pressure techniques. It is a unique art because it enables one to bring an attacker under complete control by blending with the attacker's oncoming force.
Hapkido contains both long and close range fighting techniques utilizing dynamic kicking and percussive hand strikes. Hapkido emphasizes circular motion, non-resisting movements, and control of the opponent. Practitioners seek to gain advantage through footwork and body positioning to employ leverage, avoiding the use of strength against strength.
The art evolved from a closely related jujitsu system which was later combined with kicking and striking techniques of indigenous and contemporary arts.
As lifetime association members, our Hapkido program follows the strict guidelines of the World Hapkido Association under the guidance of President and Grand Master Tae Jung. Han Ho Martial Arts is currently the only WHA internationally certified and recognized charter school in New York!
A minimum age of 13 is required to attend this class.
